2023 Kayak Round 1 – Results

27 Anglers hit the water just before 7am today for the opening round of the 2023 Getaway Outdoors Cockburn/Kelmscott WA Bream Classics Kayak Series. With some great weather the Collie River produced some hard fighting bream for some while showing others just how tough it can be! This time of year the bream fight incredibly hard, matched with the deep timber the Collie RIver has there were plenty of stories of big ones that got away.

Alex Griesdorf has taken out the win with one of only 2 full limits of 3 fish going 1.730kg

TT Lures was the major sponsor for this round, as always anglers are encouraged to check out some of the new products on offer including the new Headlockz Finesse Painted Jigheads which many anglers were using. Have a look at all of the gear available through this great Australian brand here: https://tackletactics.com.au/TT-Fishing

Alex also took out big bream going 0.730kg and won the Samurai Infinite fishing rod!

Check out the final results and gallery below.

The mighty Blackwood river produced again for the 40 qualifying anglers fishing the grand final last weekend, check out the photos below!

Taking out the win were Alex Griesdorf and Ben Oakes from Team Stinger with 6.130kg followed by Travis Newland and Josh Philips from Team Absolutely Crabulous with 4.870kg – All anglers brought back a full limit of fish both days which gives a bit of insight into how healthy the river is at the moment.

Compleat Angler Nedlands has supported the Big Bream for the whole year and the grand final was no different with Team Hit and Split and Team Barely Legal taking out the $250 each day.

With a great range of fishing gear from bream lures to large pelagic gear, they are certain to have what any angler is looking for. Check out their website below or head into store at 154 Stirling Hwy, Nedlands WA 6009.

Finishing off another social and competitive year of Kayak Bream fishing, the Grand Final is always a great time away for the anglers. This year was no different as the qualifying anglers fished from the Kalgan River Caravan Park, Joseph Gardner was in the lead with 3 fish for 2.810kg after day 1 but in the end it was Mitch Vane who came from behind to snag victory by a mere 180 grams!

2022 Kayak Grand Final – Results

Finishing off another social and competitive year of Kayak Bream fishing, the Grand Final is always a great time away for the anglers. This year was no different as the qualifying anglers fished from the Kalgan River Caravan Park, Joseph Gardner was in the lead with 3 fish for 2.810kg after day 1 but in the end it was Mitch Vane who came from behind to snag victory by a mere 180 grams!

Mitch isn’t a man of many words which has become apparent over his few recent podium finishes, however heading down a couple of weeks back with Joseph to prefish ended up being a good decision as the pair clued on to a technique that would ultimately secure them first and second spot. Mitch threw an assortment of Blades and Vibes along the drop offs in the ski area on day 1 before making a crucial decision to head out to the harbour on day 2 to fill his bag.

Trying to defend his 2021 title but falling short in 2nd place was Joseph Gardner who likely won’t be prefishing with Mitch anymore after this event! The key to all of his fish over the weekend was the heavy Blue Lip Baits Micro Mussel in Dark Night. Throwing it along rocky outcrops and targeting deeper areas by very slowly dragging/feathering it along the bottom so it looked like it was naturally bouncing along with the current.

Travis Newland went into the event only needing to catch a single fish to secure himself Angler of the Year and he did that with ease while also taking out 3rd spot and the title! Fishing drop-offs in the ski area with Razor Edge Lures Bruce in Green Pumpkin – a tactic that has seen him on the podium plenty of times in Albany over the years! Weighing in a large day 1 bag also worked in his favour taking out the podium spot on countback from Ben Oakes.

Richard Raynham managed the Day 1 Big Bream with a 1.460kg fish caught in the Ski Area on a River2Sea Baby Vibe while Greg Cooper took out the Day 2 honours fishing an Outback Breamer Baits Mussel Vibe in the harbour bringing back a 1.350kg fish. Both anglers went away with an Atomic Rod.

We turn our heads toward the Boat Grand Final in just under 2 weeks’ time at the Molloy Caravan Park on the Blackwood River!

2022 Boat Round 3 – Results

A forecast of a spring shower didn’t deter the 30 teams of anglers from fishing the local Swan River for the final boat series round of the year before the Grand Final. It is great having such a unique fishery on our doorstep and the Swan is always an interesting one this time of year. With fish still schooled up in some areas it made for some good fishing with plenty of full bags brought back to the weigh-in.

Taking out the win and falling just shy of the 3kg mark were Travis Newland and Josh Philips from team Absolutely Crabulous. Opting to fish Zman Grubz they found a good average size of fish just downstream from the launch weighing in 4 fish for 2.980kg

2nd place went to Peter Andre DeGroot and Oliver Seear from team Good Vibes who seem to always be at the pointy end when it comes to the Swan River, heading to their usual upriver haunts they found 4 nice sized bream weighing in at 2.930kg

Big bream went to first-time entrants Zaidi Marsuki & Taufiq Azman from team Gill Marine Pro who also took out 3rd place with 2.830kg. The big bream took the scales down to 1.140kg
